The UPN Strengthens Internationalization with the Launch of the Center for the Promotion of Chinese Literature 

The Universidad Pedagògica Nacional continues to consolidate its internationalization strategy with the launch of the Center for the Promotion of Chinese Literature, an initiative aimed at strengthening cultural and academic relations between Colombia and China through literature. 

The event, which coincided with the celebration of Chinese Literature Day, brought together students, teachers, national and international authors, and representatives of Chinese cultural institutions. During the event, an important collection of books was donated to become part of this new center, expanding access to Chinese literary heritage in Spanish.

According to Alejandro Mantilla, head of the Office of Interinstitutional Relations, the purpose of this center is to “establish stronger relationships with Chinese academia through culture,” by promoting activities that encourage literary exchange and interculturality between both nations.

The initiative is being developed in collaboration with three major organizations: the China Writers Association, the China Intercontinental Press, and the Instituto Confucio Jorge Tadeo Lozano University. These strategic partners will help strengthen ties with writers, provide access to relevant publications, and consolidate academic cooperation processes. 

As part of the program, the literary discussion China–Colombia Literary Dialogue: The Multidimensional Boundaries of Narrative was held, creating a space for reflection in which distinguished authors from both countries participated. Representing China were A Yi, Baoshu, and Jiang Zai, while Colombia was represented by Margarita Misas Avella, professor at the National Pedagogical Institute, and Sandro Romero Rey.

During the discussion, participants explored the transformations of contemporary narrative, its intercultural intersections, and the role of literature as a bridge between societies. The conversation was moderated by Fang Han.  

The presence of Chinese authors at the University, together with the book donation, represents a significant step forward in consolidating academic spaces that promote cultural exchange and the construction of knowledge from a global perspective. Likewise, it opens opportunities for the internationalization of the curriculum in areas such as the arts, languages, and humanities.  

With the opening of the Center for the Promotion of Chinese Literature, the Universidad Pedagògica Nacional reaffirms its commitment to holistic education, cultural diversity, and the development of international partnerships that contribute to the academic and social development of the country.
